Riedel Vinum Extreme Cabernet/Merlot Glasses, Set of 2

Product Description

A perfect addition to your Riedel collection, these Riedel Vinum Extreme Cabernet/Merlot glasses are designed specifically for wines such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. The Extreme line, most known for their larger, more dramatic diamond shaped bowls, provide an even larger surface area, exposing the wine to more oxygen and allowing it to fully open up, resulting in heightened performance, and further enhanced drinking experience for those using them. The Riedel Vinum Extreme collection was designed in response to the continued improvement in the quality of wines being produced today. As wines have become more dense, concentrated and perfected, so has the call for new glass shapes. The Extreme line is machine-made of 24% lead crystal.

Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com Review
Renowned European glassmaker Riedel designs the shape of each glass to most fully enhance the appreciation of the wine within. To meet the demand of today's increasingly more concentrated wines, Riedel developed the Vinum Extreme line, which features a pronounced diamond shaped bowl. Oversized and extra-tall, each standing 9-3/4 inches tall and holding a whopping 30-3/8 ounces at full capacity, the two Vinum Extreme glasses in this set are designed especially to give Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot plenty of breathing surface. At the same time, the modern diamond shape looks distinctly snazzier than typical wine stems.

Though Vinum Extreme glasses are machine-made to be affordable, the glasses nonetheless consist of 24 percent lead crystal for distinctive clarity and brilliance. The set of two European-made glasses makes a handsome wedding gift or augments an existing collection. While dishwasher-safe, Vinum Extreme crystal, especially in the larger sizes, is best washed by hand to prevent both breakage and the detergent residue that can affect wine taste. --Ann Bieri

Didn't know what I was missing5
These are my first set of wine glasses, and though expensive compared to sets sold by Ikea, these Riedels are worth the price. I experienced aromas from my usual wine selections that I've never knew were there before. Since receiving these glasses a few months ago, I had the displeasure of drinking wines from glasses of lower quality in restaurants. There was an older review on Amazon from someone who said he brought his Riedel glass to a wine tasting event and I felt like doing the same, but unfortunately, that wouldn't make sense on a regular basis. I am happy with my purchase and I would rather put up with the risk of breaking one and getting the most out of my wines than buying some cheap stock Ikea glasses and not know what I'm missing.

You'll never drink from another glass again.5
Mr. Reidel is a genius. He has custom shaped each wine glass to complement every different wine imaginable. Your wine will never taste as good as when it's in a Riedel glass. Even those sale brands taste expensive when cradled in this fine crystal basinette. You'll never drink from another glass again.

Big Glass for a Big Red5
This is a very nice wine glass and the biggest red wine glass I have owned. It is significantly larger (28oz vs 22oz, about an inch taller and has a wider bowl) than the Riedel Vinum Red Wine Glasses I own. Personally, it is not as comfortable to hold due to the very large size. Also, be very careful hand washing all Riedel Red Wine Glasses as not to twist off the stem. I've done it twice when I thought I was being careful. My recommendation - skip the 'Vinum Extreme' line, stick with the 'Vinum' line.
